Scholarship Benefits
The Award of Achievement provides up to $40,000 total, with annual amounts ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 per year.
The Award of Distinction offers up to $16,000 total, with annual amounts between $2,000 and $4,000 per year.
First-year recipients of either award will be funded for a maximum of eight semesters, or until they complete their degree, whichever happens first.
The scholarship can only be used to pay for undergraduate tuition and fees
Eligibility
First-year international applicants will be considered for a small number of merit-based scholarships. The selection process is competitive and involves a comprehensive review of the student’s SAT or ACT test scores and their high school academic performance.
For incoming international first-year students who have been admitted to the university, there are additional steps to apply for scholarships:
- Complete the Iowa State University OneApp application.
- Complete the General OneApp application.
- Complete the International Student Admissions Scholarship application.
To maintain your Iowa State scholarship, you must meet the following requirements during your time at the university:
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 while enrolled at Iowa State
- Enroll in at least 12 credit hours each semester (summer semesters do not count)
- Only students charged international tuition rates are eligible for this award

To apply for the International Merit Scholarship, here are steps to apply:
- Go to the OneApp Scholarship Portal and submit the General Application.
- Then, navigate to the “Opportunities” section, select “Recommended”
- Locate the “International Students Admission Scholarship Application” (choose either spring or fall) and submit the application.
