Scholarship Benefits

The Award of Achievement provides up to $40,000 total, with annual amounts ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 per year.

The Award of Distinction offers up to $16,000 total, with annual amounts between $2,000 and $4,000 per year.

First-year recipients of either award will be funded for a maximum of eight semesters, or until they complete their degree, whichever happens first.

The scholarship can only be used to pay for undergraduate tuition and fees

Eligibility

First-year international applicants will be considered for a small number of merit-based scholarships. The selection process is competitive and involves a comprehensive review of the student’s SAT or ACT test scores and their high school academic performance.

For incoming international first-year students who have been admitted to the university, there are additional steps to apply for scholarships:

To maintain your Iowa State scholarship, you must meet the following requirements during your time at the university:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 while enrolled at Iowa State
  • Enroll in at least 12 credit hours each semester (summer semesters do not count)
  • Only students charged international tuition rates are eligible for this award

How to apply

Students must fill out the OneApp scholarship application to be considered for the award.

To apply for the International Merit Scholarship, here are steps to apply:

  • Go to the OneApp Scholarship Portal and submit the General Application.
  • Then, navigate to the “Opportunities” section, select “Recommended”
  • Locate the “International Students Admission Scholarship Application” (choose either spring or fall) and submit the application.

International transfer students may be awarded merit-based scholarships if they have shown strong academic performance and exceptional talent or accomplishments in one or more of these areas:

Math and sciences, extracurricular activities, innovation, arts, entrepreneurship, community service, and leadership.
