The École Normale Supérieure (ENS) selects its candidates for the scholarship through an international examination for undergraduates who can provide proof of at least twelve months of education in an international university. They look for an excellent academic record in the fields of arts, humanities, and science. the examination will be held in two rounds – one written and the other oral.

Note: Applicants interested in the Department of Cognitive Studies (DEC) can apply using the Science or Arts & Humanities forms indiscriminately. They must contact DEC to know the exact procedure which will be subjective to their academic background.

ENS Scholarship Benefits 

  1. Integrated into the community of the normalized, training for excellence through interactions with exceptional researchers in a research-oriented environment.
  2. Obtain a grant of 1000 euros each month for three years.
  3. Be housed on the ENS campus.
  4. Obtain a master’s degree in your field and an École normale supérieure diploma.

ENS Scholarship Eligibility

  • Applicants must be under the age of twenty-six. (that is before their 26th birthday)
  • Candidates are not permitted to have previously applied to the selection process.
  • Neither the prior year nor the current academic year, which runs from September 1 to August 31, may have seen candidates spend more than 10 months in France.
  • Candidates must prove that they will have completed at least twenty – four months of undergraduate study at a non-French institution by September 1 of the admission year
  • Candidates must provide documentation proving that they completed at least twelve months of undergraduate education outside of  France during the academic year preceding the application deadline.

NOTE: The Director of ENS could make an exception and approve the application of a candidate whose academic background

  • High school diploma
  • Letter of Motivation 
    • Specification:
      • 1 to 3 pages long
      • font: Times New Roman
      • 12 pt 
      • 1.5 line spacing
      • language must be French or English
  • Project in terms so education and research if applicable to the program 
    • Restraint of 10,000 characters including spaces for arts and humanities applicants
  • Send two to four letters of recommendation via email from your referees.

How to Apply for ENS Scholarship

Step 1: The application form must be filled out online starting from 17th October 2023 and must be submitted online before 11th December 2023 for Session 2024.

Step 2: All of the aforementioned documents must be submitted online using a platform whose link will be provided once you have completed your first application form, except for the recommendation letters. This special pdf has to be merged into a special pdf mailed to the candidate. It must be named as the following “Family Name-Given Name.pdf”

Step 3: Your file is presented to the jury if it is complete.

Step 4: You will be invited to complete written and oral tests if the jury chooses your dossier..

The list of accepted students is determined by the test results.
