Scholarship Benefits
The AGRTPS gives a stipend of $33,990 per year, tax-free, based on the 2024 full-time rate set by the Australian Government. It also includes a Research Training Program (RTP) place, which covers tuition fees for up to 4 years.
Students in the AGRTPS who relocate to Adelaide from abroad can receive an establishment allowance of up to $1,485 to help with moving costs and airfare. This allowance is available after arriving at Flinders and requires the student to provide receipts.
Eligibility
Awards are available only to those who:
- Are citizens of any country except New Zealand and do not hold Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residence, or New Zealand citizenship; and
- Plan to begin full-time study for a higher degree by research in Australia for the first time in the year the award is offered. Students who started their higher degree by research in the previous year but couldn’t apply for an AGRTPS due to the timing of their admission and enrollment, or who started and then ended their enrollment within six months, may also be considered; and
- Plan to enroll in a research area where the University has strong resources and external funding; and
- Meet all entry requirements for a higher degree by research, including English proficiency levels as per the English Language Proficiency Requirements for HDR Candidature at the time of application.
How to apply
To apply for AGRTPS and FIPRS, you must first submit an application for admission to a Higher Degree by Research (PhD or Master of Arts by Research). After that, you need to apply for the International RHD Scholarship Group.
If you already have a valid offer for admission to a Higher Degree by Research, you do not need to reapply for admission.
To apply for admission:

- After reading the information, complete a registration here
- Once registered, you can log back into the portal to finish your application.
- A Flinders student ID is created within one hour after submitting your registration. Make sure to note this number.
Here are steps to apply:
To activate your account, use the Student ID from your registration and your date of birth provided at that time: https://activate.flinders.edu.au/main
After activating your account, you will get your Flinders Authentication Name (FAN). With this, you can apply for the international HDR scholarship group.
Log in to your OKTA dashboard through the quick links on the Flinders website:
Step 1: Select Student System.
Step 2: Click on the My Scholarship tab.
Step 3: Press the Create a new scholarship application button.
Step 4: Choose 2024 from the search options and select the International RHD Scholarship Group.

The Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarships (AGRTPS) (International) are designed to help international students pursue a Higher Degree by Research at Flinders University. The AGRTPS provides an international tuition fee offset, a living stipend, and Overseas Health Care cover.
