What is the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship?

The MOFA Taiwan Fellowship is a research grant offered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Taiwan to international students & researchers. This fellowship program promotes academic research in Taiwan and encourages international exchange. Through this program, selected recipients are given the opportunity to conduct their research or study in Taiwan for a period of up to one year.

Who is eligible for the fellowship?

• Open to international students and researchers who are citizens of a country other than Taiwan

• Candidates must have completed their undergraduate degree or higher by the application deadline

• Must be able to demonstrate strong academic qualifications and research experience relevant to the program’s focus

• English proficiency is required for candidates

• During their time in Taiwan, recipients are expected to take part in academic seminars & events organized by MOFA and other appointed bodies.

• Eligible applicants must be foreign lecturers, associates, assistants, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral students, or doctoral program attendees from associate departments at foreign universities or have equivalent status at other international academic institutions.

What are the benefits of the fellowship?

1. Financial Support: The MOFA Taiwan Fellowship provides financial support to cover tuition fees, living expenses, and research expenses. Each month, professors, associate professors, research fellows, and associate research fellows are paid NT$60,000, while assistant professors, assistant research fellows, & doctoral students receive NT$50,000.

How to apply for the fellowship?

1. Read the eligibility requirements: To be eligible for the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship, you must be an international student or researcher who has graduated within the last two years or is currently enrolled in a college/university.

2. Submit your application: To apply for the fellowship, complete an online application form and submit it to the MOFA website. The application includes educational background, research proposal, and language proficiency sections.

3. Submit supporting documents: In addition to the online application form, you will need to provide transcripts, letters of recommendation, and proof of English language proficiency.

4. Submit a research proposal: As part of your application, you will need to write a research proposal outlining your proposed research & how it contributes to Taiwan’s academic and social development.

5. Wait for a decision: Once you have submitted your application & supporting documents, you will be notified of the decision within 4-6 weeks. If successful, you will be invited to participate in a video conference to discuss further details.

6. Receive your fellowship: If accepted, you will receive your fellowship funds and tickets after you arrive in Taiwan and submit any additional required documents. You will also need to register at your local police station and purchase accident insurance coverage of NT$1 million.
