Scholarship Benefits

Beneficiaries of the program will be provided with a range of scientific and monetary advantages: 

  • Attendance at scientific lectures scheduled from late July to late August 2022.
  • Opportunities for individual dialogues and supervisory meetings.
  • An assessment of their comprehensive performance upon program conclusion.
  • Complimentary lodgings for the duration of their stay.
  • A daily allowance of €36, sufficient for daily living costs.
  • Coverage for travel insurance and provision of bus passes.

Eligibility

Ensure you meet the criteria listed below:

  • Your current enrollment should be in a master’s or diploma program within the natural sciences (either physical or life sciences) or a related field of study.
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree is necessary. If you are in a diploma program, you must provide proof of having completed your third year of study prior to the forthcoming summer.
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance with your transcripts and a recommendation letter from a professor or scientist at your institution who is familiar with you and your work and can appraise it.
  • Maintain a valid university registration for the entire duration of the program, evidenced by a student ID.
  • Have a proficient level of English to fully engage in all program activities.
  • Those who already possess a master’s degree and are not enrolled in another master’s program, as well as PhD students, cannot participate in this program.

All citizens of every country are eligible to apply.

If you have been employed by HZDR within a year leading up to the 1st of July of the year in question, you are ineligible for the summer student program.

How to apply

To apply, please complete the application form attentively:

Step 1:

Input all necessary personal and educational details. Confirm whether you will be registered as a university student during the HZDR summer student program.

Step 2:

Indicate your availability, noting that a minimum commitment of 6 weeks to a maximum of 9 weeks is expected. Attendance is mandatory throughout the core lecture period from 29 July to 30 August. Exceptions will not be considered.

Step 3:

Prioritize the research areas provided on the form. While you may opt out of certain fields, be advised that excluding too many can diminish your acceptance chances.

Step 4:

Choose your preferred type of work: experimental (including data analysis) or theoretical (including programming).

Step 5:

After completing this section, click “Save” to proceed to the next page, where you will upload your documents.

Step 6:

Ensure your documents are prepared in advance. Remember, once uploaded, files cannot be replaced or removed. All documents must be in English or accompanied by an English translation.

Step 7:

Upload your resume/CV in English (pdf format).

Step 8:

Upload a transcript of your academic records in English or with an English translation (pdf format).

Step 9:

Upload an image file of your student ID.

If necessary, upload any additional documents.

Step 10:

Upon clicking “Finish registration,” a link will be provided for a professor or senior scientist from your institution to upload a recommendation letter. It is your responsibility to ensure this letter is submitted by the deadline.
