Scholarship Benefits

VLIR-UOS scholarships provide coverage for tuition fees, travel expenses, insurance, and living expenses (including board and lodging). These scholarships are offered for the entire duration of the Master’s program, which typically lasts either 12 or 24 months. It is important to note that applying for a partial scholarship or an extension is not possible.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the scholarship include the following (please note that this is a non-exhaustive list provided for informational purposes):

  • Nationality and Country of Residence: Candidates should be both a national and resident of one of the 29 countries mentioned below (not necessarily the same country) at the time of application:
  • Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe
  • Asia: Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Palestinian Territories, Vietnam
  • Latin America: Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Nicaragua, Peru.
  • Age: The maximum age for a candidate applying for a Master’s program is 35 years. The candidate should not exceed this age on January 1 of the intake year.

In addition to the scholarship eligibility criteria, candidates must also fulfill the admission requirements for the Master of Statistics and Data Science program. These requirements may vary and can include factors such as academic qualifications, relevant coursework, language proficiency, and any additional prerequisites specified by the program.

Additional Information

Since 1993, VLIR-UOS has been providing International Course Programmes (ICP) scholarships for students from developing countries to study at Hasselt University. Specifically, VLIR-UOS offers 10 scholarships annually for the ICP Master’s program in Statistics and Data Science. This program is tailored to address the specific requirements and interests of statistics in developing countries.

The highest-ranked applications will undergo a review process by VLIR-UOS for scholarship approval. Once VLIR-UOS has approved the scholarship selection made by Hasselt University, the chosen students will receive automatic notification from VLIR-UOS (typically by the end of May or June). Applicants who were not selected will also receive notification from Hasselt University during the same period.
