Scholarship Benefits

Fellows get a stipend of $78,000 and an extra $5,000 for project costs. If you are a US citizen or permanent resident from a US-based institution, you can choose to receive your stipend through your home institution or directly.

Harvard Radcliffe Fellows might also qualify for funds to help with housing, relocation, and childcare for an easy move to Radcliffe. Healthcare support is provided if needed. If fellows want to hire the school’s undergraduate students as Research Partners, their hourly wages will be provided by Harvard.

Eligibility

People from all over the world are encouraged to apply. Harvard University usually sponsors J-1 scholar visas for Harvard Radcliffe Fellows.

  • Applicants cannot be enrolled in doctoral or master’s programs when they apply, unless their dissertation has been accepted and the degree is imminent (and they meet the field-specific requirements). Applicants must show a strong portfolio of independent work that has been published, exhibited, or performed.
  • Harvard Radcliffe Fellows show an exceptional level of achievement. This fellowship is not meant for post-doctoral training. Applicants need to demonstrate significant independent research and writing.

Applicants in the humanities and social sciences must:

  • Have earned their doctorate (or the appropriate terminal degree) in their project area at least two years before starting the fellowship (by December 2023 for the 2025-26 fellowship year). Accepted terminal degrees include PhD, MD, and JD.
  • Have published a monograph or at least two articles in peer-reviewed journals or edited collections.

Applicants in science, engineering, and mathematics must:

  • Have received their doctorate in their project area at least two years before starting the fellowship (by December 2023 for the 2025-26 fellowship year).
  • Have published at least five articles in peer-reviewed journals. Most fellows in these fields have published many more articles.

The Radcliffe Fellowship Program offers 50 fellowships every academic year. Applicants can apply individually or as part of a two-person team working on the same project.
