Scholarship Benefits

This scholarship is worth $45,000 annually and provide a living allowance and full tuition to help you while you work on a research project for your PhD, MPhil, or a research-based professional doctorate at UQ.

Eligibility

You qualify if you are:

  • an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • studying full-time in Australia
  • nominated by a UQ school or institute
  • assessed by the Graduate School as meeting all admission requirements for the higher degree by research program.

Additionally, you must not:

  • hold a qualification at the same or higher level than the research degree you are pursuing
  • receive a living allowance or scholarship that provides more than 75% of the RTP Scholarship living allowance rate for the research degree
  • receive a Commonwealth-funded tuition fee scholarship.”

How to apply

Before you apply, you should:

  • check if you are eligible for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
  • gather your documents
  • contact the HDR Liaison Officer at your proposed school or institute if you have any questions.
  • When you apply, make sure to:
  • include confirmation of your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status in the scholarships and collaborative study section
  • select ‘My higher degree is not collaborative’
  • choose ‘I am applying for, or have been awarded a scholarship or sponsorship’
  • select the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholarship type.

Additional Information

A part-time domestic student who has carer’s duties, a medical condition, or a disability that stops them from studying full-time may qualify for a scholarship on an individual basis.

If you get a scholarship after you have started, there will be no back payments.”
