Scholarship Benefits
There are two LSHTM Scholarships for the First Generation, which are available for enrollment in 2024-25. These scholarships cover the entire cost of tuition.
Eligibility
To qualify for these scholarships, candidates must satisfy the following requirements:
- Fulfill the minimum English language criteria.
- Hold an offer of admission for the 2024-25 academic year in one of LSHTM’s six distance learning MSc programs.
- Be the first person in their family to pursue higher education, indicating that neither the applicant’s biological, adoptive, or foster mother, father, or guardian had obtained a university degree (i.e., a BA or BSc qualification or higher) before the applicant turned 18.
Additionally, the selection committee will prioritize applicants falling into the following categories:
- Individuals of Black ethnicity.
- Individuals with experience in the care system.
- Caregivers.
- Persons with disabilities.
- Individuals who are estranged from their families.
- Refugees or asylum seekers.
How to apply?
All candidates who fulfill the aforementioned requirements will automatically be taken into account for these scholarships when they apply for their desired MSc program via the University of London website.
To be considered, you need to complete an application for the 2024-25 academic year for an eligible MSc program. The instructions for this can be found on the ‘Applying for a distance learning program’ webpage. We strongly recommend that you submit your application as early as possible to ensure sufficient time for processing before the deadline.
Applicants must ensure that all required supplementary admissions documents, including references, are submitted through the admissions portal. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have received an offer of admission by April 6, 2024.
Once this date has passed, eligible candidates who have received an offer will be invited to submit two statements. These statements should address the challenges they have encountered during their educational journey and describe the strategies they employed to overcome them.

This scholarship welcomes applications from individuals who plan to begin their studies in a distance learning program at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) for the 2024-25 academic year. Recipients of the scholarship are required to complete their respective program within a maximum of five years from the date of registration.
