Who Can Apply?
- Eligible programmes cover all Master’s at Leiden University, with these exceptions:
- Non-advanced LLM and MSc programmes at Leiden Law School.
- Programmes commencing in February from the Faculties of Humanities, Sciences, and the Leiden Law School.
- Applicants should hold a non-EEA/non-EFTA passport and should not qualify for Dutch student financial assistance.
- However, nationality restrictions do not apply to:
- All LLM Advanced Studies programmes
- MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy
Note: Post-Brexit UK students are now eligible, unless they were residing in The Netherlands prior to January 1, 2021.
Scholastic Requirements
- Applicants need to exhibit superior scholastic achievements in their previous studies, relevant to their chosen Master’s programme.
- Roughly put, the applicant should be in the top 10% of their class in their preceding study programme.
Restrictions and Obligations
- Students who have previously secured a Leiden University Master’s degree are typically ineligible, unless specific exceptions apply.
- Ineligibility also extends to students enrolled in an LLM (non-advanced) or MSc programme at Leiden Law School, or in a February-starting programme at particular faculties.
- The LExS cannot be combined with a full scholarship from another source. Exceptions may be made for partial scholarships though.
How to Apply
- Submit a Master’s programme application online to Leiden University and remit the application fee.
- Express your desire to be considered for the LExS and attach a motivation letter to your application.
- Ensure you submit the scholarship application prior to the LExS deadline.
