Scholarship Benefits
Each chosen trainee will get a monthly stipend for living costs. The trainee must pay for all travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation expenses.
Eligibility
Qualifications or Special Requirements:
- You are a recent graduate with at least a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Law, Social Studies, Politics, Economics, or a related field.
- You have excellent written and spoken English skills.
- You possess strong writing and research abilities.
- You are dedicated, able to meet deadlines, and enthusiastic about learning and contributing to the EU Delegation’s activities.
Additional Qualifications That Would Be an Asset:
- An additional degree in another field.
- Proficiency in multiple languages (South African official languages or EU official languages).
Main Tasks
Here are your tasks:
- Analyze the current and future dynamics of the EU/South Africa partnership.
- Monitor political developments in South Africa and its foreign affairs, and help draft political reports under the guidance of section staff.
- Conduct both short-term and long-term research on specific issues related to foreign affairs, domestic politics, and human rights.
- Gather information on EU legislation and politics relevant to South Africa for public dissemination.
- Attend public events, seminars, and conferences, and report on them.
- Provide administrative support for public diplomacy events, visits organized by the Delegation, and visits from Headquarters.
- Assist with the delegation’s social media efforts by proposing and drafting posts.
- Help coordinate with EU Member States, including preparing for and reporting on meetings with EU counsellors.
- Support the EU Delegation’s alumni efforts by following up on the EU Alumni strategy, making recommendations, and managing the alumni platform and database.

Important Information
The traineeships are available only if they comply with local laws and the laws of the trainee’s home country.
Citizens from EU Member States:
- Must show proof of coverage for pandemic risks and repatriation costs.
- Must have the necessary visa and/or temporary residence permit, depending on the traineeship agreement, its duration, and local laws.

Those not selected will receive an email notification. If chosen candidates cannot provide the required documents, their application will be declined.
