What Does the Young Professionals Program cover?

– Salary: A competitive salary package is provided to Young Professionals according to their educational qualifications, work experience, and country of origin. 

– Health, Life, Accident, and Other Insurance Programs: Comprehensive health insurance coverage is offered to Young Professionals & their eligible family members. Additional life, accident, and other insurance programs are also included. 

– Mobility Premium: The Mobility Premium is designed to help Young Professionals with relocation costs. 

– Tax Allowance: Young Professionals receive a generous tax allowance to help cover any taxes due in their home country. 

– Pension Plan: All Young Professionals are automatically enrolled in the World Bank’s pension plan.

Young Professionals Program Components

The program includes a range of components that provide mentorship and training opportunities. The following will probably be part of the program: 

  • Training: The YPP program offers training courses designed to build your knowledge in development & economic policy, as well as provide the necessary tools to make a difference. You’ll gain new perspectives and skills through learning activities such as workshops, simulations, and case studies. 
  • Professional Experience: You’ll be assigned to specific roles at the World Bank Group (WBG) and get the chance to work alongside experts in various departments. This allows you to apply your newly acquired knowledge & skills while receiving guidance from experienced professionals. 
  • Field Work: During the program, you’ll have the chance to participate in field visits in one or more of the countries where the WBG is active. These visits provide a firsthand look at how the organization is implementing projects on the ground. 
  • Coaching and Mentoring: A dedicated mentor will be assigned to each YP to provide guidance and support throughout the program. Additionally, coaches will offer tips and advice on how to succeed in the YPP. 
  • YP Buddy: Each YP will also be paired with a YP buddy who is already part of the program. The YP buddy can share experiences and tips on how to make the most out of the program. 
  • Technical Buddy: If you are assigned a technical project, you’ll be connected with a technical buddy from the same department who can help answer any questions about the project. 
  • WBG Mentor: You’ll also have access to mentors from across the WBG who are experts in their fields. These mentors can help you navigate the WBG system and offer advice for success. 
  • Youth Program Team: Last but not least, the YPP team provides support throughout the program, from selection and onboarding through to completion. The team works closely with participants to ensure they gain the most out of their experience.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The following requirements must be met in order to be eligible for the program:

  • You must be 32 years old or younger as of June 30th, 2023 
  • You must have a Master’s Degree in a relevant field such as economics, finance, engineering, science, public policy, or another field related to international development 
  • It’s necessary to have three years of relevant experience.
  • You must have fluency in at least one of the WBG’s working languages (English, French, Spanish, or Portuguese) 
  • You must be able to travel and work overseas 
  • You must be a citizen of a WBG member country 
  • You must not have participated in a WBG training program before
  • For World Bank placement experience needed: 3+ years of postgraduate study with specialization in economic and financial sector reforms; statistical analysis; measurement methods for socio-economic and environmental outcomes; design research studies; quantitative skills are essential.
  • For IFC & MIGA placement experience needed: 1+ year of postgraduate study with specialization in investment climate assessments; project implementation evaluations; local business environment assessments. You’ll need 5 years’ worth of professional experience if applying after your 29th birthday.
