Decision to run for a second term

President Dwight D. Eisenhower addressed the nation at 10 p.m. on February 29, 1956, regarding his decision to run for a second term. He discussed his health in light of the heart attack he had suffered the previous September. Said the President, “As of this moment, there is not the slightest doubt that I can perform as well as I ever have, all of the important duties of the Presidency.”
