To be eligible for a comprehensive New Zealand Scholarship, applicants must have reached the age of 18 prior to the initiation of their scholarship. This implies that candidates who are 17 at the time of application must turn 18 by the beginning of the first semester of their scholarship. An exception exists for Samoan scholars, who are permitted to start their scholarship at the age of 17. There is no upper age threshold for applicants, meaning anyone aged 18 and above is eligible to apply.

Nevertheless, there is a preference for applicants under the age of 40 for New Zealand Scholarships aimed at university or tertiary-level students.

How to apply

For details on student visa requirements and the application process for New Zealand, please refer to the external link provided here. It is also important that you note the following:

  • During the New Zealand Scholarships application process, candidates must select their desired educational institutions and courses. Applicants for scholarships are not required to apply for admission to their selected institutions and courses until they have been informed that they are a preferred scholarship candidate.
  • However, it is important for applicants to verify that they are likely to fulfill the minimum academic requirements and the required English proficiency level for their chosen courses. Entry requirements for courses are determined by the educational institutions, so applicants should consult the institution’s website for minimum entry requirements before applying for a scholarship.
  • PhD scholarship candidates should begin identifying and contacting suitable PhD supervisors at New Zealand universities early in their application process. Those reaching the interview phase must demonstrate that they have either secured a supervisor or are actively engaging with a potential supervisor.
