The objective of the Hatfield Lioness Scholarship is to offer a female student from a developing nation, where opportunities for higher education are scarce, the chance to pursue postgraduate studies at Durham University. Initiated in 2018, the scholarship commemorates the 30-year anniversary of admitting women to Hatfield College at Durham University and receives financial support from the college’s alumni, friends, and other benefactors who endorse the goals of the scholarship.
Hatfield College is committed to granting the Lioness Scholarship to a candidate possessing the necessary academic and personal attributes that will ensure their successful completion of a postgraduate program. The recipient is expected to serve as an exemplary representative of their nation while in Durham, and upon returning home, to utilize the skills and knowledge acquired from the master’s program to make a significant impact in their local community.
Eligibility for the scholarship requires that:
- Candidates should have secured an unconditional offer for the master’s program they have selected by June 2024.
- Candidates must not have received any other scholarships for their postgraduate education.
- The scholarship is exclusively available to female applicants.
- Applicants must hold nationality from one of the specified countries (see full list of here)
How to apply
- Possess an honours degree that is relevant and meets the required standard for admission to the Master’s course you have selected.
- Fulfill all other entry requirements for the course, including the necessary English language qualification.
- Not already have obtained a Master’s degree.
- Lack the financial resources to pursue a Master’s degree in the UK without scholarship assistance.
Steps to apply
Apply for the master’s program of your choice and ensure to express your intention to seek the Hatfield Lioness Scholarship within that application.
Once the scholarship application form is made available, fill it out to apply for the scholarship.
Ensure to email all required supporting documents, which include the offer letter from Durham University, your academic transcript, any letters of reference, and your IELTS certificate, to [email protected], and do so before the specified deadline.
- The Scholarship does not cover expenses for dependents nor does it fund travel during the tenure of the Scholarship.
- The accommodation provided is solely for the use of the Scholarship recipient; it is not suitable for dependents.
- The scholarship is open to students commencing their degree program in September/October of 2024.
- Applicants will be notified of the results of their scholarship application by mid-June 2024.
