*CSC scholarship program offered by the Chinese government:  The CSC (Confucius Institute) offers government-funded scholarships that provide grants of up to 20,000 RMB per month for up to 18 months of full-time study in China. In addition, you’ll have the chance to experience life in China firsthand and develop relationships with locals. It’s important to note that recipients must be between 18-35 years old, have fluency in Mandarin or English, and have at least two years of university education or a higher education certificate.

Chinese government scholarships Eligibility

-Be an international student from specific countries and currently studying at any of the universities mentioned earlier. 

-An undergraduate or graduate degree program is required.  

-Demonstrated financial need.

-Reside within the country they are applying for 

-Show full-time enrollment status (at least nine credits) at the time of application and maintain full-time status throughout their tenure on the scholarship. 

-Submit two letters of recommendation about your eligibility and two essays about why you want to pursue a career in China. One essay should focus on what they hope to gain by pursuing their degree in China, while the other essay should focus on how their experience would enhance their future work with China’s culture.

 

How to apply for Chinese government scholarships?

  1. Identify the Application Timeline: The CSC Scholarship generally opens for applications from January to April each year. However, different universities or authorized agencies may have their own deadlines. Make sure to verify the application deadline for the universities you’re interested in.
  2. Complete the Online Application: Start your CSC Scholarship application process by filling out an online form, available in English or Chinese. A single CSC portal account allows you to apply to up to three universities.
  3. Specify Scholarship Type and Agency Code: At the start of the online application, you’ll be asked to select the scholarship type based on its funding source (A, B, or C). Additionally, you’ll need to provide the code of the authorized agency or university, which can be found online or obtained from your chosen university.
  4. Attach Required Documents: After filling out the online application form, make sure to attach the necessary documents in PDF format.
  5. Download the Application: Post submission, download a copy of your Chinese Government Scholarship application for your records.
  6. Choose Your Preferred University and Course: Select your desired Chinese University and course.
  7. Check University Requirements: Confirm whether your chosen Chinese University requires an additional online application for admission alongside the Chinese Government Scholarship application.
  8. Submit Additional Applications if Needed: If an additional application is needed, submit it on the university’s website and include your Chinese Government Scholarship application.
  9. Prepare and Dispatch Document Sets: Create two sets of the necessary documents and send them to the University’s address.
  10. Wait for Results: The results will be announced on the application page around mid-July. After the announcement, the respective entities will start mailing the required documents to process the study visa to the successful candidates in their home countries.

What is the selection process for Chinese government scholarships?

The selection process varies depending on the program, but it will generally depend on your educational background and the field you are applying for. Some programs have higher requirements than others. For example, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) requires applicants to have at least one year of post-secondary education before applying. The CSC also considers whether you’re a native speaker of Mandarin and is less likely to award funding to those who do not have this language ability.
