Scholarship Benefits

The sum of the grant is 200,000 CHF ($228,283) to fund the salary expenses for doctoral students during a three-year period.

ETH professors also bear the expenses for the fourth year of the doctoral studies, as well as the costs associated with the research.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Engineering for Development (E4D) Doctoral Scholarship Programme, you are required to complete the following steps:

  • Establish an existing connection with an ETH professor who specializes in your field of study. You can refer to the List of ETH Zurich Professors for this purpose.
  • Possess a high level of proficiency in the English language.
  • Ensure that you are within the maximum age limit of 40 years.
  • Hold an exceptional MSc or MA degree with a strong academic performance.
  • When contacting an ETH professor, make sure to have a specific and well-defined project idea in mind.
  • Prior experience in the chosen research area is required.

Individuals from low- and lower-middle-income countries will be given preference.
