Who were they?

We know little about the three Confederate soldiers listed on this 1862 coffin receipt. Pvt. John Y. Pitts was mustered into Captain Barnes’s Company of the “Ouachita Greys” at Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 31, 1861. He was 18. Pvt. E. Underwood joined Captain Wilson’s Company of the 8th Arkansas for 12 months at Camp Price, Arkansas, on July 6, 1861. He was 22. The service record for Pvt. Joseph Avering could not be located.
