Korea, 1950


On June 25, 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea. President Harry S. Truman returned to Washington, DC, from Independence, Missouri, and met with his advisors to determine the American response. This declassified memorandum summarizes the discussion at the meeting. Truman ultimately decided to commit military forces to counter North Korean aggression.
