Guilty of resisting relocation
In 1942, Gordon Hirabayashi, a Japanese American student at the University of Washington, refused to report to a relocation camp. His refusal defied Executive Order 9066 evacuating Japanese Americans from the West Coast. This document records the outcome of Hirabayashi’s first trial. The U.S. District Court ruled 9-0 against him. Forty years later, Hirabayashi challenged his 1942 conviction. The court overturned the earlier verdict.
