Sergeant First Class Forest E. Couch of Des Moines, Iowa, uses his binoculars in this August 17, 1950, photograph at the Naktong River in southeastern Korea. North Korea invaded the Republic of Korea in June 1950. In August and September 1950, American troops held a line along the Naktong River against attacks from the North Korean People’s Army.
