Magnificent leadership

First Lieutenant Luther L. Lawson recounts an incident in which Captain Manuel “Jay” S. Vargas demonstrated his professionalism and proved to be an “extraordinary officer.” During the night of April 30, 1968, near Dai Do in the Republic of Vietnam, Vargas was the cool voice of reason over the radio and provided the orders that led to a successful defense. This statement was part of the supporting documents that led to a Medal of Honor for CPT Vargas.
