No water, no electricity for $6 a day

8/31/1946

Mrs. John Whitehead, her husband, six children, and six grandchildren rented this primitive three-room company house from the Coleman Fuel Company. They were photographed in Bell County, Kentucky, by Russell Lee on August 31, 1946. Lee was part of a team that documented health and living conditions among coal miners.
