Bright Path in the blocks

ca. 1910

Jacobus Franciscus "Jim" Thorpe was a member of the Sac and Fox tribe who was born in Oklahoma in 1888. Named by the Associated Press as the greatest athelete of the first half of the 20th century, Thorpe attended the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania, where this photograph was taken around 1910. Thorpe won gold medals for decathlon and pentathlon in the 1912 Olympics. His Native American name, Wa-Tho-Huk, translates roughly to Bright Path.
