Launch of the Titan

As part of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States following World War II, both countries sought to conquer space. Towards this goal, the United States designed and built the Titan III C rocket. The III C, pictured here lifting off from Cape Kennedy, Florida, on July 14, 1969, could lift payloads into near-Earth and geo-synchronous orbits.
