Portrait of an Amerikian


Mikael Amerikian, an ethnic Armenian born in Turkey, petitioned for United States citizenship in Portland, Maine, on July 31, 1931. A survivor of the state-sponsored mass killings of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1917, he immigrated to America with his wife Nortivee and three-month-old child Verag, on June 26, 1921.
