Reagan appears before the Committee

12/2/1947

Formed in May 1938 the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) investigated disloyalty among American citizens. It became extremely powerful during the Cold War years and focused its investigations on left-wing political activities, especially on individuals accused of Communist sympathies. In addition to Alger Hiss and Whittaker Chambers, HUAC heard testimony from many prominent Americans. This memorandum describes the possible testimony of the president of the actors' union.
