Dismantled, November 1962

This photograph captures the dismantling of a Soviet military base on Cuba on November 1, 1962. After a naval blockade of the island nation, the Soviet Union dismantled their bases and withdrew the Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles they had installed there. A theodolite is an instrument used to measure horizontal and vertical angles and is a critical piece of equipment for accurately aiming missiles.
